  • University of Guelph 50 Stone Road East Guelph, ON, N1G 2W1 Canada (map)

Taking care of your mental health is so important, especially as a university student. Unfortunately, in some collectivist cultures (e.g. Coptic community), many feel that seeing a therapist is stigmatizing. In other words, seeing a therapist is embarrassing and something to hide from others. As a result, many do not get the mental health support they need.

I will explore the idea of Therapy Stigma and why it does not need to be an issue. We will explore:

-The origins of Therapy Stigma in collectivist cultures (e.g. Coptic)

-The truth about seeing a therapist

-How to determine if therapy is needed
